Home alone on a Sunday... perhaps a much needed rest from my week-long bout of feeling under the weather. So I finally get round to clearing some abandoned boxes at the back of my bed and I find them filled with... almost nothing really. Flipped through some old magazines (why did I even bother keeping them?) and dumped them with the newspaper pile to recycle.
It's only now that I appreciate days such as this. Why did I always see the incessant need to head out for coffees and dinners to fill my time? I have somehow interpreted staying home = no plans = boring.
Gone are the childhood days when I could just sit for hours and days devouring Enid Blyton stories and all sorts of other books. In some weird way, for the noble pursuit of education, having to read tons of academic papers in the university has indeed killed my interest in reading altogether. And in some stranger way, reading fiction seems to leave me with a bigger imprint. I can remember fondly the stories by Roald Dahl, Haruki Murakami, JK Rowling etc. and how they have made me think and feel and imagine. I can't seem to devote my attention to books anymore, or I make mental notes to read so many titles from Edgar Allen Poe to those penguin classics to whatever modern lit is out there right now... that it seems too daunting and I just don't. I mean... everyone knows of Sherlock Holmes, but I haven't even touched any of those damn novels to truly appreciate what it really means to know Sherlock Holmes.
It's all a matter of time isn't it. No time. It's not just about reading, but there's so many other things in my to-do list like clearing out my room, closet, learning new recipes, eating healthy, exercising more, traveling, etc. But week after week, I'm just occupying my time with the same old things that I don't seem to be seriously making time for anything else.
A weird time of the year to be making a resolution... but perhaps I really need to keep myself away from the digital aspect of life and truly live life the old school way. Away from social media and computers. At work everyone's on the computer all the time, we really should have had enough of it by the time we get home, shouldn't we? Everything in moderation... so enough of this post and back to the real world.
